Hosts New Zealand in complete control in Hamilton
Tom Latham and his New Zealand side came into the 2nd innings of the Hamilton Test armed with a lead of 204 runs. Gus Atkinson got England the 1st wicket when he had Latham playing onto his stumps for 19 runs. Kane Williamson joined opener Will Young as the pair added 89 runs for the 2nd wicket in 105 balls.
Will Young was batting well on 60 when he was caught by Jacob Bethell to give Ben Stokes his first wicket. The England skipper struck again when he had William O Rourke caught behind by Ollie Pope for a duck. The start of the day on Monday was delayed due to rain as an entire session was lost.
Once play resumed, Williamson and Rachin Ravindra then added 107 runs for the 4th wicket. Both batters played with intent as runs began to flow for the hosts, with boundaries being scored by both batters. England bowlers seemed clueless as their bowlers began to lose patience and bowled erratic lengths.
Against the run of play, Matthew Potts dismissed Rachin Ravindra, caught by Brydon Carse. The left-handed batter scored 44 runs from 90 balls with four boundaries and a six. At tea, Williamson was batting on 123 off 171 balls, with Daryl Mitchell batting on 18 off 23 balls.
