The ninth edition of the T20 World Cup is just around the corner and fans are eagerly waiting for the mother of all battles - India vs Pakistan. The premier 20-over tournament features a total of 20 teams for the first time, but as usual, in every ICC tournament, the clash between these two holds special significance.
The arch-rivals are in the same group (Group A) and their high-octane encounter is scheduled to take place on June 9 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Millions of people around the world are expected to relish the biggest cricket match of the year, many from the stadium and others via live telecast or streaming.
Meanwhile, in a major highlight of the tournament, England's famous Edgbaston Stadium will turn into a huge fan park on the IND vs PAK match day. This is the first time that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has allowed UK fans to watch live streaming of a cricket match at the stadium. Up to 8,000 fans are expected to turn up for the event.
“For the first time ever the ICC are giving UK fans an opportunity to watch it live from Edgbaston Stadium where the piazza will be turned into a family festival of cricket,” Warwickshire County Club said in a press release.
Edgbaston only venue chosen as World Cup Fan Zone in England
The Fan Park will have a giant screen for live match screening and pre-game entertainment, including performances by comedian and cricket commentator Aatif Nawaz. Some former India and Pakistan cricketers are also expected to attend the event.
Stuart Cain, chief executive of the stadium, said that Edgbaston is the only venue in the country chosen by the ICC to host the T20 World Cup Fan Zone. Cain highlighted the opportunity for local communities to enjoy the World Cup experience.
The marquee event is set to kick off on June 2 with a matchup between Group A members, the United States and Canada. The tournament is jointly hosted by the USA and the West Indies. Ireland are the other team in Group A along with India and Pakistan.
