‘Emotions got better of us’ – WATCH: Sam Konstas opens up more on his run-in with Virat Kohli

Australian cricket star speaks about his fantastic Test debut at the MCG and also spills the beans on his fight with Virat Kohli on the opening day.

19-year-old Sam Konstas electrically made his Test debut with a blistering half-century. The Aussie batter was aggressive right from the start and put pressure on India’s seam bowlers with unorthodox cricket shots. The young batter was out for 60 runs when he was dismissed by veteran Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja in the 20th over.

Sam Konstas was chatting with 7 Cricket after he was dismissed when he was asked to speak about his innings. Konstas replied “I think it was a bit of a blur, but a dream come true, look at the turnout full stadium but yeah the boys have been very welcoming, feels like home”

The 19-year-old also added that Pat Cummins had asked him to enjoy himself ahead of the game on Thursday. Konstas came into the game after Nathan McSweeney had failed to score runs in the previous three games of the series. Australian selector George Bailey had said that he wanted to different something different at India after Konstas was selected. 

Youngster spills the beans on his fight with Virat Kohli 

The morning session was laced with visuals of the huge fight between Virat Kohli and Sam Konstas. Incredibly, Konstas had named the former India skipper as his favourite player ahead of the game. Both players had to be calmed down after Kohli shoulder-barged the Aussie batter at the end of the 10th over. 

During his chat with 7 Cricket, the youngster was asked to give his opinion on the first overs of the game. The host broadcaster also asked if the young batter had decided to use the ramp shot ahead of the game. Konstas replied “It wasn’t the plan yesterday I was going to play good cricket shots but Bumrah is a world-class bowler and yeah try to pressure on him”

When asked about his fight with Kohli, the young batter replied “I think the emotions got better of us. I didn’t realize, I was doing my gloves when the shoulder charge happened, it is Test cricket”. The young batter also paid huge compliments to Usman Khawaja for helping him keep his composure during his debut knock.
