The rivalry between the fans of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) is nothing new. Over the years there have been multiple instances where the fans of both these stalwarts’ teams have been associated with verbal altercations which later on turned into brawls. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has seen one more such incident involving crazy fandom which unfortunately led to the loss of life of an individual.

The incident took place in Kolhapur’s Hanmantwadi area during the recently completed match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and MI where a 63-year-old man succumbed to death after the brawl. It was reported that during the game between MI and SRH, the victim, who was a Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fan expressed his joy over the fallen wicket of MI opening batter, Rohit Sharma.

This remark from the victim was not liked by the MI fans there and they beat the victim with a stick which ultimately caused severe injuries. Moreover, the incident took place at Hanmantwadi which is in Karveer Talika of Kolhapur district on Wednesday night during the epic clash. The match eventually was a run feast as SRH scored a record 277/3 runs batting first in their allocated 20 overs and in reply to this mammoth total MI fell short by just 31 runs and scored a humungous 246/5 in their 20 overs.

One should remember which country these players represent: Ravichandran Ashwin

Before the start of IPL 2024, the MI franchise took the captaincy from Rohit Sharma and handed it over to Hardik Pandya which fumed the fans all across the globe. Right from then, the star India all-rounder is being booed wherever he goes. Even in the opening encounter of MI against Gujarat Titans (GT), the fans of GT booed and abused Hardik who earlier led the franchise to the title in IPL 2022. Citing this, the legendary India spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin has condemned these acts and said that the fans should first of all remember that the Pandya is an Indian Cricket Team player who has also brought glory to the country.

“Fan wars should never go this ugly a route. One should remember which country these players represent — our country. So, then, what warrants a cricketer getting booed? I don't understand. If you don't like a player and boo a player, why should a team come out to issue a clarification? This is cricket, and there is a prevalent cinema culture. I know there are things like marketing, positioning and branding. I agree with all that. But I don't believe in all this, but it's not wrong to indulge in either,” Ashwin said on his YouTube Channel.
