South Africa's 15-member squad for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) finals was announced on Tuesday, May 13. Temba Bavuma is set to lead the team in a historic moment as the Proteas will play in the finals for the first time. Kagiso Rabada has been added to the squad, who received a one-month suspension from cricket due to a positive drug test. He will be a crucial part of the team in the upcoming match.
The WTC finals will be hosted at the Lord's Cricket Stadium, London, where South Africa will play against Australia on June 11. Proteas head coach Shukri Conrad congratulated the players for making it to the WTC team. Their selection is still the biggest achievement for the team, as they failed to do so in the last few years.
"Firstly, I want to congratulate each of the players selected for this squad. It is a special moment for this group to contest the WTC Final. Over the past 18 months, we’ve worked hard to build a competitive red-ball unit, and this achievement reflects that progress. A key part of our success has been consistency in selection, and we’ve stuck with the core group of players who have been part of this WTC cycle. We’ve selected a balanced squad for the conditions we expect at Lord’s," said Head coach Shukri Conrad as quoted by the Indian Express.
