England batted first and posted 172 on the board, whose innings lasted for just 32.5 overs. In reply to it, Australia managed to score just 134. England's batters lasted for just 34.4 overs in the second innings while handing a target of 205, which the hosts chased down in only 28.2 overs.

While a whopping 19 wickets fell on Day 1, 13 wickets fell on the second day. Only 847 deliveries were bowled in the entire match, which was the third least in the history of the Ashes. The short nature of the match has led to huge criticism from the fans and critics.

Todd Greenberg opened up on it after the questions were raised on how short the match was. The CA executive chief noted that there is a demand to have a competing game. Likewise, he also noted that there is a demand from fans and experts for the players to be competitive at the same time. He also noted the importance of the financial standpoint of the game.

"There are competing demands in Australian cricket, and I understand that. There are the performance demands, and what might suit the teams best. There are commercial returns, which are really important," Greenberg said.
