Conflicts within MI camp comes to light as senior players question Hardik Pandya's team functioning: Sources

Since the shift in captaincy, in the Mumbai Indians (MI) camp in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, the fans and the experts were quite unhappy with the decision. The shift from Rohit Sharma to Hardik Pandya has been tough for the team as it was chaotic and unnecessary. However, after being at the bottom of the points table and the first team to get eliminated from the playoffs race, the seniors of the MI camp have questioned Hardik's way of functioning as a captain. 

As per sources, the skipper's behaviour has caused a lack of buzz in the dressing room and some players have spoken to the coach about this issue. This seems more of an adjustment issue as the team was more comfortable with Rohit's way of working. However, with Hardik becoming the captain, there have been a lot of changes in the team including its way of functioning. Hence, players are facing issues regarding the same. 

The sources have also mentioned the names of the players (Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah) who met the coaching staff to discuss the matter over lunch. Besides this, they also had one-on-one conversations with certain seniors and team management representatives to come to one common point.

Even though the campaign wasn't good for the MI team, Hardik Pandya always had a smile on his face. This time he was actually happy after defeating SRH by seven wickets thanks to Suryakumar Yadav's century. In the presentation, Hardik spoke about the formation of the team and the discussions they had before the game.  

"We want to focus on playing good cricket, still think we gave 10-15 runs extra. The way our batters batted was excellent. In my bowling, I like to bowl in the right areas, I bowl according to the situation. Bowled in the right areas today and it worked. I was like Chawla had to bowl from the shorter side," said Hardik Pandya at the post-match presentation.
