Pakistan have kept their hopes alive in the T20 World Cup 2024 with the string of a thread after a 7-wicket win against Canada in the 22nd match of the tournament. The men in green took on Canada at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York and asked the opponent to bat first.

Batting first, the Canadians were restricted to a total of 106 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs against the experienced bowling attack of Pakistan. Opener Aaron Johnson was the only batter to play a well-fought knock of 52 runs off 44 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes before he was trapped in a ‘clean bowled’ by Naseem Shah.

The veteran pacer Mohammad Amir emerged as the most economical and best bowler for Pakistan in the first innings as he conceded only 13 runs in his entire spell of 4 overs, scalping two wickets just at the economy rate of 3.25.

Besides him, Haris Rauf also picked two wickets, alongside 1 wicket each bagged by Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah.

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan lead the run chase for Pakistan

While chasing the target, opener and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan scored a half-century for Pakistan, scoring 53 runs off 53 balls, with 2 fours and a six. Besides him, skipper Babar Azam also played a knock of 33 runs off 33 balls, with a four and a six. These knocks helped Pakistan to chase down the target comfortably in 17.3 overs, scoring 107 runs for the loss of 3 wickets and winning the match by a margin of 7 wickets.

The experienced pacer and most economical bowler for Pakistan, Mohammad Amir won the ‘Player of the Match award for his sensational bowling.

Now, Babar Azam’s men will face Ireland in their last group match; Pakistan will have to win their match against Ireland by a big margin and hope for USA’s loss in their remaining two matches to ensure a super-8 spot in the tournament.
