With that said, here we’ll discuss the major question for every Indian cricket fan and the Indian cricket team, and that is, ‘Can Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli continue their career after the Champions Trophy 2025?

The current scenario denies the possibility of retirement for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

Notably, both Rohit and Kohli announced their retirement from the T20Is last year after India clinched the glorious T20 World Cup 2024 title. The trophy came for India after a long wait of 17 years since they won the title in the tournament’s inaugural edition. Returning to Rohit and Kohli, it was their last appearance in the shortest format when India defeated South Africa in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024.

If it's about ODI cricket, it has been a nucleus of discussions in the Indian cricketing corridors if Rohit and Virat will continue their ODI career after the Champions Trophy 2025. A couple of months back, when Gautam Gambhir took over coaching responsibilities for the Indian team, he categorically mentioned that the management is looking ahead to make their plans in ODI cricket with having Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in it, considering the ICC ODI World Cup 2027.

Besides that, a report in a couple of Indian media outlets understands that skipper Rohit Sharma might hang his boots in international cricket if India loses to New Zealand in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 final. The report quoted a source in the Board of Control for Cricket in India speaking about the chances of Rohit Sharma continuing his career of India failing in the Champions Trophy 2025 summit clash.

However, the confirmation of the report above is still sceptical, and it is quite hard for fans and experts to trust this report, as Indian management seems to have some serious plans with Rohit Sharma for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2027.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli has been in a commendable run of form with the bat in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He recently completed his 51st ODI century in the Champions Trophy 2025 game against arch-rivals Pakistan. Following this, he played a match-winning knock of 84 runs in the must-win semi-final against Australia to help India reach the final.

So, it also looks quite nearly impossible that Kohli will be retiring from the ODIs or international cricket after the Champions Trophy 2025.
