'But the mindset...' - Rohit Sharma reveals the goal of Mumbai Indians for IPL 2025

Rohit Sharma is one of the most successful players in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He is the only player to win six IPL trophies. His first IPL trophy came in 2009 with Deccan Chargers, and five came with Mumbai Indians (MI). The Mumbai-based franchise were trophy-less till 2012 despite having many superstars in the team. But it all got changed since Rohit Sharma was appointed as captain of the team in 2013, helping the team to win five IPL trophies in just eight years. His IPL journey till now is all about highs and lows.

Rohit talked openly about the team's evolution over the years in an interview with the Mumbai Indians. He said that his attitude hasn't altered and that the franchise's never-give-up mentality is ingrained in it. "My career for 17-18 years has always been up and down, which has taught me so many things in life, and these nine months were no different," he said.

"Since the time I started to now, a lot of things have changed. I used to bat middle order then, now I'm opening the batting. I was captain then. I'm not the captain now. There were a few teammates whom I played with and won the championship, but they are not there. They're in the coaching role now, so the roles have changed, a lot of things have changed, but the mindset has not changed."

"What I want to do for this team has not changed, which is to go out there and win games and win trophies. That is what MI is known for. All these years we've gone and won trophies, won games from a situation that no one ever believed. So that is MI and that is what Mumbai is known for," said Rohit.

Rohit Sharma's journey with Mumbai Indians

Rohit Sharma joined the Mumbai indians after the 2011 mega auction. But the fortune for the Mumbai Indians remained the same as they failed to lift the IPL trophy. But during the 2013 IPL season, MI made a big decision which changed its fortune. They appointed Rohit Sharma as captain in that season, and MI won the IPL title for the first time. And since then, the team has become the most successful franchise of IPL. 

As the IPL 2025 has started, Mumbai Indians will play Gujarat Titans at Ahmedabad in the hope of winning the game. In the first game, Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians. Rohit Sharma was dismissed on a duck. With the game against GT, he will aim to get back in form to win the team a strong start, as he has changed his batting approach.
