Mumbai Indians' (MI) former Captain Rohit Sharma is set to miss the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season. This decision came ahead of the home game against the Rajasthan Royals (RR). As per reports, rifts are going on in the MI team's dugout and the atmosphere is quite negative. Even though nothing is officially confirmed yet, the news of Rohit's exclusion from the IPL has sparked controversies.
Before the IPL 2024 season started the MI management traded Hardik Pandya from the Gujarat Titans (GT) team with a deal worth INR 15 crores. Ever since he joined the team there were rumours of his disrupted relationship with Rohit and some of the other players. Moreover, Hardik's captaincy is in question after MI lost their first two games. He also received boos and jeers from the audience during the toss time.
If we consider the viewers' perspective, since Rohit is MI's most successful captain, the transition from him to Hardik is quite daunting for them as well. Moreover, the news of Rohit's exit from the IPL 2024 is heartbreaking for the fans. However, for the time being, all we can do is wait for an official confirmation from the MI management.
Rohit Sharma to captain India in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024
As the T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to start on June 2, India will be playing their first match against Ireland on June 5. India's squad for the upcoming tournament hasn't been released yet but the Board is planning to release it after the first half of the IPL. However, only Rohit Sharma's captaincy news is confirmed by the BCCI secretary, Jay Shah.
"We may have lost the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup. But we won hearts thereby winning 10 matches in a row. I would like to say that I am confident that India will lift the 2024 T20 World Cup under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy at Barbados," said Jay Shah.
