Indian cricket coach wants more batters rolling their arms over in the ODI format. This follows after Rinku Singh and Suryakumar Yadav were seen bowling during the final T20I match. Both the players picked two wickets each as the Indian team tied the match and won in the super overs.
The next ODI series for India is at home versus England before the Champions Trophy 2025 season. According to bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule, there is a good chance that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli could also be seen bowling in the ODI format soon.
Sairaj Bahutule while addressing the media said “I think our batters are good bowlers as well, to be honest. You know their primary skill is batting, so at times, they don’t focus much on their bowling. But they have the skills”
Gautam Gambhir wants more flexibility
After the first ODI, bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule has said that Gautam Gambhir wants more flexibility in the ODI format. The 42-year-old wants to be unorthodox in his approach with the ball and this could see Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma bowl a bit more in ODI cricket.
Sairaj Bahutule said “You might have seen in the T20Is…Rinku and Surya contributed with the ball. So, Shubman was given an opportunity here. It’s going to be an all-rounder’s game in the coming days”
The Indian bowling coach also said “So, if one or two batsmen from the top-order can bowl it will definitely help the team, of course, depending on pitch conditions and situations. Also, it will be a surprise element to the opposition, if a batter can bowl. So, moving ahead there will be ample opportunities for batters to bowl,”
Rohit Sharma was asked if he would be seen bowling during the ODI series during the toss. Replying to this the Indian skipper had said that he would not be bowling with a chuckle. The last time Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli bowled was during the 2023 ODI World Cup.
India will take on Sri Lanka in the second game of the series on Sunday. Rohit Sharma will want his side to bat better after they lost regular wickets in pursuit of 231 runs on Friday.
