Gautam Gambhir is ready to start his head coach job with the Indian team in the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. As India will be travelling to the Lankan islands for a T20I and ODI series, the Indian squad hasn't declared yet. The tentative date for announcement is Tuesday, July 16.

While the Shubman Gill-led India team did exceptionally well in the Zimbabwe series, the Board might trust the young guns and give them another chance to prove their worth. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja won't be a part of the Indian team as they have announced their retirement from T20Is.

This is Gambhir's first stint as the head coach, and he'll be extremely specific about selecting the players. While he demanded two separate teams for red-ball and white-ball cricket, the team announcement for the Sri Lanka series will be super fun. Nobody is sure about who the captain will be or what the team selection will be.

One thing about captaincy I feel is how much confidence you can show in your players: Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill is quite confident in himself after winning the 5-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. He also opined about how important talking to the players after each match is. After losing the first match, India's confidence did stumble for a bit, but their comeback was solid, showing how mentally fit they are. They won the second T20I by 100 runs which was a huge achievement for the players.

"One thing about captaincy I feel is how much confidence you can show in your players. I try to do that and make them believe that if you try and execute the plans, the results will always follow. After losing the first match, we were under a bit of pressure," said Shubman Gill after winning the Zimbabwe series.
