The Board of Control for Cricket in India is set to sit across the table with all ten teams and create a roadmap for the upcoming mega auctions ahead of IPL 2025. There are many things that are supposed to be discussed including the much talked about player retentions.

In a report carried by CRICBUZZ, it is mentioned that the franchises have asked BCCI for more retentions. The reason behind the demand is understood that the franchisees want the teams to be more stable after the massive investments made.

It was also reported by CRICBUZZ that the meeting is set to be hosted in Mumbai. The date for the meet is set for the 30th or 31st of July. One of the other sticking points that will be spoken about is the salary cap.

BCCI and IPL team owners set to meet

CRICBUZZ has reported that BCCI is set to sit across the table with all the ten teams to decide on the future ahead of the mega auctions of IPL 2025. The report stated “There have been varying views on the number of retentions allowed for a franchise. Some argue that continuity is essential, as most franchises have existed for more than 17 years and the number of retentions permitted should be as high as eight”

The report also stated “It is being argued for the sake of fan engagement and brand building, they need to structure their teams around players who are seen as integral to the franchise’s image”

There are also discussions on whether the BCCI will bring back the Right to Match card for the IPL 2025 Mega Auctions after its absence during the 2022 Auctions. Yet another point of discussion will be about the salary cap.

The CRICBUZZ report further wrote “There will also be a discussion on the salary cap, which is expected to be around 120 Crore INR in the first year of the three year cycle. Subsequently, the retention value of each player could also come in for discussion”

There were reports which came out on Saturday regarding the possible moves for a few players. Rishabh Pant has been rumoured to move away from Delhi Capitals while KL Rahul has been linked with a move away from Lucknow with many reports suggesting he could head back to Bengaluru.

When and where is IPL 2025 Mega Auction expected to take place?

The likely date for the IPL 2025 mega auction is set to be somewhere between December 2024 to February 2025. The last two IPL Auctions took place in December. The venue is still up in the air with the 2024 Auctions taking place in UAE.
