Azhar Ali resigned as a Member of the PCB's Selection Committee and the Head of the Youth Development Program just a year into the role. As per the reports, the former Pakistan cricketer was unhappy with the 'red-tape style of working' in the board. Some of his proposals for grooming youngsters were reportedly not pushed forward, which reportedly led to his decision.

Azhar was appointed to the PCB's Selection Committee and the Head of the Youth Development Program in October 2024. Just a year into his role, Ali resigned from his post, which is a concern for the PCB. PTI reported that Azhar's resignation has been accepted by its board.

"Azhar sent his resignation to the board earlier this week, and it has been accepted. The red-tape style of working irritated him, as did the fact that some of his proposals for young cricketers' grooming at the academy were not pushed forward," PTI claimed as per a source.

Were Azhar Ali's responsibilities reduced without his consent?

The report added that many posts were taken away from him without his consent. Most popularly, Safrfraz was assigned the role of running the Shaheen's and under-19 teams, which probably happened against Ali's wish. The report added that many other such decisions happened without his consent, leading to his resignation from his post.

"Azhar felt that with Sarfaraz now asked to run the Shaheen's and under-19 teams, a large part of his responsibilities as head of youth development had been taken away without his consent, so he decided to resign," the source added. It is to be seen who would replace Azhar in the PCB.
