Cricket Australia has added two new players as their travel reserve, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matt Short, who weren't included in the squad earlier. While the entire 15-member team remains unchanged, the possibility of star players like Steve Smith, Jason Behrendorff and Tanveer Sangha seems unlikely now. The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will start on June 2 in the US and the West Indies.

Most of the Boards have already released their squads for the marquee event while some teams like Pakistan are yet to release their teams. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has kept the deadline for changes in the squads till May 25. For Australia, Mitchell Marsh will be leading the side, which makes the team stronger. After returning from injury and missing the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Marsh will be looking to make the most out of this tournament.

Australia is in Group B with England, Namibia and Scotland, and will be starting their T20 World Cup campaign against Oman in Barbados on June 5. Moreover, the Australian players and staff will be travelling to the West Indies for their warmup game on May 28.

Reason behind Jake Fraser-McGurk's entry into the Australia squad

After a stellar performance in the ongoing IPL 2024, Australia's opener Jake Fraser-McGurk finally gets a place in Australia's World Cup squad. Even though he isn't included in the 15-member squad, the Board has added him to the travel reserves list along with Matt Short. Moreover, one of the main reasons behind his inclusion in the Australia team was his current performance in the IPL 2024.

In nine innings he scored 330 runs with four half-centuries at an eye-watering strike rate of 234.04. With this performance, his inclusion in the team was given. Fraser-McGurk is yet to make his debut for Australia. Even if he fails to play in the T20 World Cup 2024, considering his performance, he will soon make his debut in the national team.
