Australia dethrone Team India to become No.1 Test side; Men in Blue retain top spot in white-ball formats

Australian men's national team has replaced Team India as the No. 1 Test side in the latest ICC rankings following the annual update. The sport's apex body updated the team rankings on Friday, May 3.

The Australian cricket team once again reached the top spot in the ICC Test rankings and dethroned India by claiming the top spot. Notably, the recent rankings didn't mark the inclusion of 2020 and 2021, where India beat Australia by 2-1; however, the rankings have taken the results and matches that were held after May 2021.

Notably, Rohit Sharma and Co suffered the loss in the WTC Final against Australia back in June 2023. However, the side has recently defeated Ben Stokes-led England 4-1 in the recently concluded five matches of the Test series. Seaking about the points, the Men in Blue are just four points behind the Aussies, while England are in the third spot.

Pat Cummins and Co. are in the top spot with 124 points, while India is in the second spot with 120 points to their name. However, the Ben Stokes-led English side is in third place with 105 points, while South Africa is in fourth place with 103 points. In addition,New Zealand is in the fifth spot with 96 points, while Pakistan has slipped to sixth place with 89 points in the table.

Meanwhile, Team India is at the top of the table in the latest ODI and T20I rankings. The side has lost the ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia, but despite that, they have a great lead over them. The latest ODI rankings have not changed; however, Ireland claimed the tenth spot while Zimbabwe slipped to the 11th position. India is in the first spot, while Australia is in second. South Africa sits in the third spot, while England and Sri Lanka are in the fourth and fifth spots, respectively, in the latest rankings.

However, Rohit Sharma and Co. will be looking to perform extremely well in the T20 World Cup 2024, taking place from June 1 in the West Indies and USA, after losing the ODI World Cup 2023 in the final game to the Aussies.
