Amid the rising tensions at the border between India and Pakistan, cricket is also supposed to be affected in both India and Pakistan. It also includes the major tournaments like the Asia Cup 2025, the Women’s World Cup 2025 and the T20 World Cup 2026, which are scheduled to be played in India in the coming period.

Just a few days back, on the night of 6th and 7th May, India launched Operation Sindoor, to execute precision strikes to eliminate terrorist camps, which were settled in Pakistan and Pakistan-Administered Jammu and Kashmir. It came in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 innocent Indian civilians.

However, India and Pakistan are not officially at war so far, but still, the cross-border tensions have put the aforementioned three major cricket tournaments in a conundrum. The clarification is yet to be issued by the ICC and the BCCI. ICC Chair Jay Shah is keeping a close eye on the entire situation.

“We are monitoring the situation, and so is ICC” – BCCI source

Meanwhile, the situation might also go in a big hang-in-balance as the chief of the Asian Cricket Council is Pakistan’s interior minister, Mohsin Naqvi.

“We don’t know yet. The situation is evolving, and we still have 4-5 months left for the Asia Cup and the Women’s World Cup. There has been no discussion with the ICC regarding shifting the venues or postponing it. We are monitoring the situation, and so is ICC. We will take a call when it’s appropriate,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by InsideSport.

Speaking of India-Pakistan cricket relations, they have been facing a big up and down since the infamous 1971 Indo-Pak war, followed by the impact of the 1999 Kargil War. Following the Mumbai terror attacks in Mumbai 17 years back in 2008, India and Pakistan are playing against each other only in the Asia Cup and ICC tournaments.
