The first Test between India and New Zealand will be played at the famous MA Chidambaram stadium in Bengaluru. At one stage Karnataka boasted huge names like Rahul Dravid, Javagal Srinath, Anil Kumble, and Venkatesh Prasad. Considered one of the best cricket venues Bengaluru fans are expected to cheer for local hero KL Rahul.

The 32-year-old spoke to BCCI in an exclusive interview and spoke of the love he has for his home ground. KL Rahul said during his chat with BCCI, “It’s always special for me to come back here, always special to come back to your home ground and place where you have grown up, played all your cricket.”

So far KL Rahul has played just 2 games in front of his home crowd. The right-handed batter has scored 190 runs with an average of 65. Interestingly, Rahul has scored a fifty each time he has played at this venue. During the 2017 Test against Australia, Rahul scored 90 and 51 and further 54 against Afghanistan. His 90 during the 1st innings of the Australian Test is his best at his home ground.

As a youngster, KL Rahul made a name for himself playing the Ranji Trophy under Vinay Kumar. The team also had future India stars like Karun Nair, Manish Pandey, and Sreenath Aravind. After his exploits with the bat during the victorious Ranji Trophy tournament, Rahul got his India call-up in 2014 during the tour of Australia.

During his chat with the Indian Cricket Board’s X handle, Rahul said, “The feeling for me as an 11-year-old boy who came here first time to play a game, that feeling for me hasn’t changed. I still remember that feeling so many years later as well. So yeah, it’s always special to come back home from the time you leave the dressing room and walk out to the middle. There are so many emotions that go through you, so many memories that come back in 2 minutes.”

India’s veteran batter also added, “I mean from age group cricket to when we were playing Ranji Trophy cricket, that used to be where we used to have breakfast, you know, finish our breakfast, come to the ground and start our training, finish our training and go back there for lunch.”
