'About to shine for you' - Kolkata Knight Riders tease their fans with IPL 2025 captaincy announcement

Three weeks remain till the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) begins. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the reigning champions, have not yet revealed their captain for the next campaign. They will play Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their home backyard in the opening match of the 2025 Indian Premier League. 

Fans have been teased by KKR that they would reveal their future skipper. They have shared a speculative update on social media, adding, "The winner's name is written in the sky." “Look at the stars! Look how they’re about to shine for you," read the caption.

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) do not currently have a captain. Last season, the third title for KKR was won under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer. Under Gautam Gambhir's leadership, the team has already won two championships.Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer participated in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction after refusing to get himself retained.

Iyer cost 26.75 crore when he was purchased by Punjab Kings. KKR is now without a leader, though, and with the 2025 Indian Premier League approaching, it is quite likely that they will announce their skipper. 

Ajinkya Rahane ideal candidate to lead Kolkata Knight Riders

Ajinkya Rahane is expected to be named the Knight Riders' captain for the forthcoming season, according to reports. They have reduced their list of possible replacements to a few candidates, and Rahane is now the front-runner to lead the team. Rahane is predicted to be the ideal candidate to captain the three-time IPL winners as they prepare to make a significant impression in IPL 2025. 

Leadership roles are nothing new to Ajinkya Rahane. He guided India to a historic Test series victory in Australia in 2020–21, showcasing his cool head and strategic prowess. Rahane has demonstrated a systematic and calm attitude while leading the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. His league captaincy record hasn't been particularly noteworthy, but his leadership style encourages discipline and stability, which KKR may find advantageous.
