Chennai Super Kings came into the IPL 2024 season as the defending champions. MS Dhoni stunned the world when it was revealed that the iconic number 7 had stepped down as the captain of the side.

Ruturaj Gaikwad was given the command of the team and the CSK star batter saw his side miss out on playoffs in a heartbreaking game versus Royal Challengers Bengaluru.  The men in yellow like the other nine teams will be looking to make changes to their side ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega auctions.

MS Dhoni’s playing future isn’t confirmed as the former Chennai Super Kings star hasn’t confirmed anything yet. There are a few other players whose playing future will be under severe doubt with the five-time IPL winners.

Here are the top four players Chennai Super Kings could retain ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auctions

In the absence of Matheesha Pathirana, Mustafizur Rahman, and Deepak Chahar the task of leading the Chennai Super Kings attack fell on the shoulders of Tushar Deshpande. The right-arm pacer from Mumbai did well and impressed everyone with the new ball during the second half of the season. Tushar Deshpande will be one of the favoured choices to be retained by CSK during the IPL 2025 mega auctions.

3- Shivam Dube

For all his struggles with the Indian team, Shivam Dube is a huge player for Chennai Super Kings. The 31-year-old has a huge cog in the wheel for the Chennai middle-order and has been seen as an enforcer against the spinners. Shivam Dube is sure to find his name in the IPL retained list before the men in yellow’s think tank sit down for the mega auctions ahead of the new season in 2025.

2- Matheesha Pathirana

The Sri Lankan pace ace has become an integral part of Chennai Super Kings thanks to his Yorkers and economical bowling. Pathirana is sure to be a Chennai Super Kings player come IPL 2025 as the five-time winners will want to retain the young pacer. As Chennai Super Kings head into a new era under Ruturaj Gaikwad, the role of Matheesha Pathirana becomes even more important in the bowling department.

1- Ruturaj Gaikwad

Chennai Super Kings will pen down the name of Ruturaj Gaikwad as their first retention for the IPL 2025 season. The 27-year-old has been a consistent performer with the bat and has been leading the side from the front. Ruturaj Gaikwad is seen as the second coming of MS Dhoni and his calmness rubs off not only on the junior members but also onto the senior stars and international players.
