Advertisment

Zion Williamson had medical imaging on Saturday morning after missing Friday night's game against the Orlando Magic because of stiffness in his left hamstring. The findings verified the strain, and he will now be assessed weekly. His career has been severely impacted by a disturbing history of health concerns, which this most recent setback adds to.

Williamson has found it difficult to remain on the court following an impressive start to his NBA career. He fractured his right foot over the summer, which kept him out of action for the entire 2021–2022 campaign. He then had to miss time due to a season-ending hamstring injury in January 2023, but he came back at the start of the 2023–2024 campaign.

New Orleans Pelicans has not had a good start this year

Regretfully, the problems with injuries didn't stop there. Williamson's absence from full health was further prolonged in April 2023 when he sustained another hamstring injury during the Pelicans' play-in game against the Los Angeles Lakers. Williamson's frequent ailments have made it difficult for the Pelicans to assemble a strong squad around his special skills. The team's progress has been hampered by Williamson's failure to remain healthy, despite his evident potential since being chosen No. 1 overall by New Orleans in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Despite making the playoffs twice and posting winning records in just two of his five NBA seasons, the Pelicans have never advanced past the opening round. With a 3-7 record in the first few weeks of the season, New Orleans Pelicans has not had a good start this year. Now that Williamson is out for good, the Pelicans must figure out how to compete in the challenging Western Conference. Williamson's ongoing injury issues make the Pelicans' future unknown for the time being, but the team will be hopeful he can get back to full health as soon as possible.
