After defeating the Dallas Wings 100-93 on Sunday, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever (17-16) earned their first winning record of the season. After the Olympic break, the Fever had a 6-1 record and had won six of their previous seven games.  With 28 points on 10 of 19 shots and 12 assists, Clark led Indiana once more.

With 12 of her 22 shots, Kelsey Mitchell scored a game-high 36 points. Arike Ogunbowale, the WNBA All-Star MVP, added 34 points of her own. Indiana Fever had been waiting a long time. Specifically, it's eight years. After defeating the Wings, the Fever improved their record to 17-16, their best since 2016. This is the first August or later that the team has had a winning record.

Since the Olympic break, the Fever have gone 6-1, with three of those wins coming away from home. The prize is six straight home games, beginning on Wednesday against Los Angeles Sparks in last place, leading up to the regular-season home finale versus Washington.

Mitchell was silent for a while in the first quarter following Wings guard Arike Ogunbowale's fourth 3-pointer. Rather, she turned to face coach Christie Sides, who was positioned close to the Fever bench and raised her arms in a dejected gesture.

Cynthia Cooper earned two WNBA MVP

Following the game, Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell ran into Houston Comets and WNBA veteran Cynthia Cooper. They hugged and posed for photos. Following his four-year tenure with the USC Trojans (1982–1986), Cooper spent more than ten years playing abroad. She played in just five seasons for the WNBA after joining during its 1997 debut season. Cooper earned two WNBA MVP honors and four WNBA titles in her brief WNBA career.

Following Clark and Cooper's first public meeting, fans were thrilled and shared their opinions on social media. On Wednesday, September 4, Clark, Mitchell, and the Fever will face the Los Angeles Sparks at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, where they have a four-game winning run.
