The Raptors' Scottie Barnes almost lost control of his emotions during Toronto Raptors' attempt to hold off the Denver Nuggets on Monday night, but the Nuggets have good reason to be furious after starting the season with consecutive defeats. Barnes tried to get in Russell Westbrook's face and got into a fight with Aaron Gordon, which led to a fight that eventually got everyone on the court involved.

Scottie Barnes made Aaron Gordon's mistake, which gave the Raptors a fast-break opportunity. In transition, Barnes attempted a layup, but Russell Westbrook broke up the transition bucket and fouled him hard. Barnes had to get up fast as Toronto's players crowded Westbrook after the nasty foul was judged flagrant. Tension increased as more players joined in after Gordon approached and started speaking with Barnes. As team officials pulled back the two players, Gordon seemed to push Barnes, hitting his chin.

Gordon and Barnes were both given compensatory technical fouls, but after the brief altercation, no one was sent out. After the incident, Barnes made two free throws and converted one of them. Gordon has already had a falling out with the Raptors. Barnes had to exit the game after taking an accidental elbow to the face from Nikola Jokic, but it was just the beginning of a rough night for him. But Barnes did everything he could on the court. He kept the Raptors near the Nuggets with his final stats of 21 points, 12 rebounds, 9 assists, and 5 steals.

When Barnes got into a heated argument with the Nuggets veterans, the Raptors had a five-point lead and were on the verge of beating Denver 0–3 in a huge upset. Denver won 127-125 after forcing overtime thanks to a basket in the final seconds from Canadian guard Jamal Murray. In the 2020 COVID-19 bubble in Orlando, he got into a fight with former Raptors guard Kyle Lowry during a regular season game.
