Detroit Pistons roster is full of question marks, and there is no obvious route to success save for Cade Cunningham. Owner Tom Gores is certain that he has at last identified the ideal front-office leader to take the franchise's direction. He views Trajan Langdon as both his CEO and president of basketball operations. Langdon, the former general manager of the New Orleans Pelicans, succeeded Troy Weaver as the franchise's top executive. Monty Williams, the head coach, was fired last week after five years and $65 million remaining on his contract.

Former Cavaliers coach J.B. Bickerstaff, Mavericks assistant Sean Sweeney, Timberwolves assistant Micah Nori, and Pelicans assistant James Borrego are among the contenders set to interview for the head coaching position. With the draft coming up next week and free agency beginning on June 30, Langdon is unsure when a new coach will be in place.

Langdon is eager to make moves

Following a catastrophic 14-68 season, the incoming coach will prioritise growth. Cunningham is the best of the trio, averaging 22.7 points and 7.5 assists this season. This offseason, he is eligible for a rookie-scale extension. Detroit Pistons may have more than $60 million in cap room to make adjustments. With many clubs trying to reduce salaries due to tax provisions in the new collective bargaining agreement, Langdon is eager to make moves that will benefit both immediate and long term.

Gores chose Langdon not just for his basketball skills, but also for his entire leadership abilities. Langdon has been granted complete power over the organization's day-to-day activities. One of the earlier concerns leveled against the structure was that there were too many persons with Gores' ears.
