After a poor season, the Detroit Pistons dismissed general manager Troy Weaver on Friday. Weaver was given an off-site scouting position because he has time left on his contract, according to reports. This is Trajan Langdon's first act as new team president, and it will help determine the franchise's future.

According to sources, Michael Blackstone, New Orleans Pelicans' vice president of basketball administration, is being considered as a potential candidate to work under Langdon. Detroit had the NBA's poorest record the previous two seasons, winning only 23% of their games in four years with Weaver in control of basketball operations.

Langdon was recruited as general manager of the New Orleans Pelicans in 2019, and the team has improved in each of the previous five years, winning 49 games last season, behind only one team in franchise history.

Troy Weaver who spent three seasons in Cleveland, formerly served as Brooklyn Netts' deputy general manager. The Pistons have announced that he would recruit additional executives in an enlarged front office.

Detroit Pistons stated in April that they were seeking new leadership

Weaver was hired in June 2020 following a 10-year career with the Oklahoma City Thunder in a variety of roles, concluding as vice president of basketball operations. Over his four seasons in Detroit, the Pistons went 74-244 with a.303 winning percentage. Their highest finish throughout that time was in 2021-22, when they won 23 games.

The Pistons stated in April that they were seeking new leadership after going 14-68, losing three more games than the previous season, and setting an NBA single-season record with 28 straight losses. Under Weaver, they went 74-244 overall, extending a postseason skid that began in 2019.

For the second consecutive season, Detroit did not do well in the draft lottery, and it will choose fifth for the third time in a row. The Pistons haven't won a postseason game since 2008, and they last entered the playoffs in 2019. Detroit Pistons are attempting to rebuild around Cade Cunningham, the first overall selection in 2021, to restore prestige to a team that has won three NBA championships.
