Team USA is under a lot of pressure. To no one's surprise, they began the Paris 2024 Olympic Games as the overwhelming gold medal favourites. Their quest for the podium culminated in a nail-biting 95-91 comeback triumph over Serbia on Thursday. If the United States had fallen, it would have been a monumental upset.

While the Serbian squad is led by three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic and prolific shooter Bogdan Bogdanovic, the United States pulled off a spectacular comeback victory after falling behind 17 points in the first half.

Serbian Head Coach Svetislav Pesic knew his team was in for an epic struggle even before the game started, "We are playing against the best team in the history of national teams," as per Give Me Sports.

Serbia was the overwhelming favourite to win the gold medal until LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and Joel Embiid took over in the last seconds of the fourth quarter. The USA needed every player in the NBA to mount a stunning comeback in the fourth quarter in order to guarantee their spot in the championship game versus France to fight for Olympic gold.

For most of the match, Serbia proved unstoppable from beyond the arc. They were 7-11 when the second quarter got underway from three-point range. They had made 15 of their 30 triple attempts by the end of the third quarter, and they were ahead 76–63.

United States book thier spot in final for gold medal

Leading Serbia's three-point offensive assault, Aleksa Avramovic finished with 15 points, going 4-6 from deep. Serbia maintained their advantage with an 11-2 run in the second quarter, having taken an eight-point lead into it. By the halfway point of the second quarter, the US was behind by 17.

France and the United States will enter the gold medal game having battled through their respective semi-finals. The host nation, headed by rookie wonder Victor Wembanyama, would desire nothing more than to celebrate atop the podium.
