In the game of basketball being taller than everyone he plays against or with is nothing unusual Tuesday's Olympic match between France and Japan provided an angle that spectators aren't used to. When Victor Wembanyama faced 5'6" Yuki Togashi, the smallest basketball player in the 2024 Games, Wembanyama, the tallest, faced the shortest. Victor Wembanyama has been the key player for the team and has performed well in previous international tournaments which include FIBA tournaments in 2019 and 2021 and EuroBasket 2022.

Togashi played in the NBA Developmental League during the 2014–15 season, although he has spent most of his professional career in Japan. In the 2014 D-League draft, he was selected in the second round. Togashi's season ended after just 25 games due to an ankle ailment. He was averaging 1.0 assists and 2.0 points per game with the Texas Legends. 

Beginning with the 2015–16 season, Togashi made his way back to Japan as a member of the Chiba Jets. He has persisted in representing the team, taking home MVP awards in the B. League in 2019 and the East Asia Super League Final MVP in 2024. For Togashi, this is his second Olympic Games. Three years ago, he was a member of Japan's Tokyo Games squad.

Victor Wembanyama has performed well in his rookie season

This is Wembanyama's first time competing in the Olympics. The 20-year-old San Antonio Spurs rookie enjoyed a spectacular campaign. Throughout 71 starts, he averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, and an NBA-high 3.6 blocks per game, good for Rookie of the Year.

Kawamura took the charge as he scored 29 points and Rui Hachimura scored 24 points before getting ejected from the game in the fourth quarter. After losing to Germany Japan lost to France. In the last group stage match France will take on Germany and Brazil will face Brazil. France defeated Japan by 94-90 as Victor Wembanyama scored 18 points in the game.
