Angel Reese's WNBA record of 15 consecutive double-doubles was broken during the Chicago Sky's 81-67 defeat against the New York Liberty on Saturday. The rookie racked up 16 boards and scored eight points while regularly facing Kennedy Burke. Breanna Stewart, the Liberty's leading scorer, was sidelined with a right hamstring issue. Her status beyond Saturday is uncertain.

With 17 seconds left in the game, Angel Reese had a chance to get to 10 points. However, four Liberty defenders swiftly closed in on her in the paint as she drove the baseline. Five personal fouls and a dismal 3-for-13 shooting performance late in the game prevented her from scoring in double figures. Still, it seemed like Reese's run might continue as he entered the fourth quarter with eight points and ten rebounds.

With six assists, Sabrina Ionescu scored a game-high 28 points. The Liberty extended their league-best record to 20-4 thanks to scores of 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists from Leonie Fiebich, 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists from Jonquel Jones, and 12 points from Ivana Dojkic.

Chicago Sky's record plummeted to 9–14 as Marina Mabrey scored 21 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, while Michaela Onyenwere scored 14 points off the bench. Chicago's top scorer, Chennedy Carter, scored seven points in just 15 minutes of action.

Angel Reese made 15 games streak of double-double

Reese established a WNBA record last Sunday with her 13th consecutive double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in a defeat to the Seattle Storm. Candace Parker previously held the record, with 12 consecutive double-doubles during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. On Thursday, she extended her streak to 15 games against the same Liberty club.

On Tuesday, the Sky will travel to take on the Las Vegas Aces (15–7). Their next-to-last game before the All-Star Game and the Olympic break in Paris will be that one. The top two teams in the WNBA will square off against each other, the Liberty and the Connecticut Sun (17–5).
