Juanita Vanoy was born on June 13, 1959, in Chicago, Illinois. She was raised on the South Side of the city and played basketball for the Fenger Academy High School team as a teenager, where she discovered her passion for the game. She continued her education after high school, working as a loan officer at a Chicago bank and obtaining an associate's degree. Michael Jordan and Juanita Vanoy met in a Chicago Bennigan's restaurant in March 1985. They first met when Vanoy went to a Chicago Bulls game and saw Jordan play basketball from the stands.
