'Had to take a drug..' - Anthony Edwards reveals why the trio missed celebration after winning gold

Basketball: Anthony Edwards disclosed that he and star player Kevin Durant, as well as Stephen Curry, were subjected to drug tests following the Olympic final against France.

Playing in his first Olympics with Team USA Anthony Edwards won the gold medal after defeating host nation France in the finals. In the final match, Anthony Edwards came off the bench to team up with NBA legends Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant. This trio helped the USA to dominate in the Paris Olympics 2024 as they won another gold medal. 

Team USA defeated France by a score of 98-87. During the final match Stephen Curry’s incredible performance, which included eight three-pointers for 24 points to help Team USA defeat France 98-87. Edwards scored eight points off the bench, while Durant contributed fifteen more.

Anthony Edwards disclosed that he and star player Kevin Durant, as well as Stephen Curry, were subjected to drug tests following the Olympic final against France during their appearance on Boardroom Talks at Fanatics Fest this weekend. "We couldn't even really celebrate for real because me, (Kevin Durant) and (Steph Curry) had to take like a drug test," Edwards said regarding his experience after winning the gold, as per Sportskeeda.

In the end, Stephen Curry scored 24 points. In the men's basketball Olympic final between Team USA and France, Durant scored fifteen points and Edwards eight. Anthony Edwards, who was competing in his debut Olympics, shot 58 per cent from the field and 48 per cent from beyond the arc, averaging 12.8 points and 2.8 rebounds.

Anthony Edwards had small impact for USA in Paris Olympics

The star player for the Minnesota Timberwolves was coming off of his finest NBA season, averaging a career-high 25.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game. Despite playing a smaller role than many had anticipated, Edwards averaged 12.8 points. Despite this, the 22-year-old proved he will be a useful option for Team USA going forward by contributing significantly off the bench.

Opening night of the 2024–25 season will see Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves take on the Los Angeles Lakers. The youthful superstar will face colleagues from Team USA, LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
