Donovan Mitchell set to sign new deal with Cleveland Cavaliers: Reports

Basketball: Donovan Mitchell is agreeing to sign a new contract extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers which will keep him with the team for more than three years and will earn him $150.3 million until the 2028-29 NBA season.

Reports surfaced around Donovan Mitchell about his contract extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The recent report on Tuesday says that Donovan Mitchell is agreeing to sign a new contract extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers which will keep him with the team for more than three years and will earn him $150.3 million until the 2028-29 NBA season.

In 2022 Donovan Mitchell joined Cleveland Cavaliers from Utah Jazz since then he has become a key member of the team. In the last two seasons, Donovan Mitchell had an average of  27.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 5.2 assists. In his first season, he scored 71 points which was his career high during the game against Chicago Bulls.

During the last NBA season, Donovan Mitchell had an average of 26.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 6.1 assists which is his career high. As per NBA agency rules, he still has time still Saturday to sign the contract. During the second round of playoffs, the Cleveland Cavaliers faced the Boston Celtics. During the semi-finals, Donovan Mitchell had a calf injury and was not able to play in the last two games of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Boston Celtics. During the playoff series, the Boston Celtics defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers and later went on to win their 18th NBA Title. However, the Cleveland Cavaliers fired J.B. Bickerstaff and now have appointed Kenny Atkinson as their head coach. 

As per reports, Donovan Mitchell's deal has a 54 million dollar player option until the 2027/28 season making him the star playmaker of the team. Meanwhile keeping him for three years Cleveland Cavaliers expects to win the NBA title.

Paul George left the Los Angeles Clippers to join the Philadelphia 76ers, while Klay Thompson left the Golden State Warriors to join Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving with the Dallas Mavericks, who fell to Boston in the NBA Finals last month. These are just two of the major transactions made possible by free agency.

Following their agreement on Monday with Jayson Tatum for a $315 million, five-year extension, the highest contract in league history, the Celtics have extended contracts with every member of their starting lineup. Meanwhile, LeBron James is set to sign a new deal with the Los Angeles Lakers has his son Bronny James has also picked during the second round of the NBA Draft and LeBron James is going to stay to play with his son for the upcoming season.
