Angel Reese openly challenges WNBA reshaping 'narrative', says 'It's not one person'

Another rookie Angel Reese has now opened up about the narrative around Caitlin Clark calling the WNBA a team game. She also namedropped some rising stars of the WNBA.

In recent times women's NBA has received a lot of praise and fan following. Some fans and NBA stars have called it because of Caitlin Clark’s amazing performance. The rookie has shocked everyone with her dominant performance on the court. 

However, another rookie Angel Reese opened up about it and spoke against the narrative calling it a team game. The Chicago Sky forward shared a message in a post on X on Thursday night, which has since been deleted. "And that's on getting a WIN in a packed arena, not just because of one player on our charter flight. #SKYTOWN.” It came after Sky beat New York Liberty by 90-81. 

Apart from this, in her pre-game media interaction, Reese said that more things are improving WNBA rather than one narrative that is going outside. She said, “It’s not just one person. I think people don’t realize that because the narrative is that just one person changing the game.”  

“It’s a lot of us — me, Kamilla Cardoso, there’s Cameron Brink, Rickea Jackson. There are so many great players, and it’s been long overdue and just being able to see that our impact has been able to change the game. I love it for us all and we’re just going to continue to keep going”, Reese told the Associate Press. 

Does Reese have a point?

If you analyse the comments made by Angel Reese you will find that she has a point. Apart from Clark, several rookie players dominating the field and having a great time. Rookies are making their mark in the WNBA, with standout performances across various teams.

Clark has been impressive, averaging 17.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game. Reese has also showcased her talent, putting up 12 points and grabbing 8.7 rebounds in just three games. Brink has shown strength on the boards, averaging six rebounds per game along with 2.3 assists. 

On the other hand, Rickea Jackson, playing for the Los Angeles Sparks, has been solid with 9.7 points and 2.3 rebounds in three games. Aaliyah Edwards of the Washington Mystics has made her presence felt with 20 rebounds and five blocks in five games.

While Clark's remarkable college career ensures she remains in the spotlight, the ongoing WNBA season will increasingly shine on rookies like Reese, recognizing their on-court contributions as pivotal in shaping the league's future.
