Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff is very proud of his team after the first two races of the 2025 Formula 1 season. Nobody thought it would be the Mercedes F1 team emerging as the second-fastest after McLaren. Many predicted Ferrari as the team to beat this year, but their performance has been declining from the start. The first race in Australia was a complete mishap as the Merenello team failed in their strategy.

The F1 Chinese Grand Prix was a complete disaster, with the two Ferrari drivers disqualified after they failed to qualify during the post-race checkups. Lewis Hamilton would be wondering what’s going wrong for them. But his former team, Mercedes, had a great start to the season, with George Russell finishing on the podium for two straight races.

Even his replacement, Kimi Antonelli, finished in the Top 10 at both races and got the driver of the day award at the Chinese Grand Prix. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff is very proud of his team and their progress in the first two races. Toto Wolff said, “We are clearly the second fastest team today, and that’s another solid result. George’s driving was a 10 out of 10, and I rarely give 10 out of 1,9, but he just extracted the maximum that was there today. And insofar, there are reasons to be excited for what the future brings.”

Toto also acknowledged his young driver, Kimi Antonelli, who raced throughout the race with floor damage. He added, “He had a car that was severely impaired finishing eighth, holding on to it, not complaining, and just getting on with the job shows the potential and the maturity he young man has.” While Toto has been enjoying the progress of Mercedes since the 2022 season, his favourite driver, Lewis Hamilton, is facing nightmares in the Ferrari camp.

Hamilton thought Ferrari was a faster team than Mercedes. But things have changed completely, and Mercedes is now the second-fastest team, as per Wolff's claims and race results. We expect them to become stable by the Japanese Grand Prix, sorting out all their issues, as it is a long gap. We are now heading into a triple header starting with the race in the Suzuka circuit, followed by Bahrain and Saudi Arabia in a very short time.
