Seven-time world champion and racing legend Michael Schumacher's only son, Mick Schumacher return to F1 is always a dream. The 25-year-old German was a former Haas F1 driver and has been out of Formula 1 since the 2023 season.
He was seen as a rising star but due to his poor performance and series of crashes, Mick was released by the end of 2023. He then joined his father's former F1 team Mercedes F1 as a reserved driver. But now with Bottas replacing him, the German was out of Formula 1.
The Former F2 champion was rumoured with the Sauber F1 team but they signed Gabriel Bortoleto as their new driver leaving the German out of the equation. Mick Schumacher’s love for F1 is still on, and his priority is F1 at any cost. He also didn’t get any chance at Sauber and Alpine. The German is now driving for the Alpine World Endurance championship team.
'F1 remains a dream'- Mick Schumacher
Mick saw a chance to return to F1 last year with Williams. James Vowels dropped Logan Sargeant in mid-season but chose Franco Colapinto. Schumacher says “No, Formula 1 remains a dream. In my spare time, when I’m in the Alpine racing car or training in the simulator, the priority, with 100 % concentration, is on the long-distance project.”
Red Bull boss Helmut Marko said, “I think if Schumacher doesnt get this seat then Formula One history is over for him. He should then concentrate on the long-distance races, where he was very successful, and do that. If he stays in motorsport, then he has to find something that he enjoys, but where he also has a chance of winning.”
This year Formula 1 will have 5 new rookie drivers Isack Hadjar, Gabriel Bortoleto, Kimi Antonelli, Oliver Bearman, and Jack Doohan. If Schumacher plans to return to F1 then he has to look at the 2026 season as Cadillac F1 team is entering Formula 1 as the 11th team. It will add two more driver seats to the grid.
But the american team is trying to bring their homegrown Indy car driver Colton Herta. There will also be competition from Former F1 drivers like Logan Sargeant, Valtteri Bottas, Sergio Perez, and Kevin Magnussen. Mick is still very young and can make a difference all he needs is a second chance in F1.
