The British Grand Prix weekend got off to a dramatic start as Yuki Tsunoda's mishap in Free Practice 1 (FP1) led to the first red flag of the event. Just minutes into the session, Tsunoda lost control of his car while navigating the Luffield corner, resulting in a spin that left his car stranded in the gravel.

Tsunoda's incident occurred early in the session, disrupting the flow as recovery vehicles were deployed to retrieve his immobilized car. The Japanese driver, who was sixth on the timesheets at the time, found himself unable to drive out of the gravel trap, necessitating the red flag to ensure his car's safe removal and the track's clearance.

The conditions at the Silverstone Circuit, described by Lando Norris's engineer as having grip levels akin to a "winter testing day in Barcelona," contributed to the challenge faced by the drivers. Despite the tricky conditions, the Mercedes duo of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton topped the timesheets when the session was paused, showcasing their early pace and adaptability.

Who will dominate the British Grand Prix 2024?

Round 12 of the 2024 Formula 1 season sees the sport returning to the iconic Silverstone Circuit, the birthplace of the British Grand Prix. Max Verstappen, the current leader in the drivers' championship, aims to extend his advantage following a controversial clash with Lando Norris in Austria.

Meanwhile, Norris, competing in his home race, is eager for a strong performance, along with fellow British drivers George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, who are both keen to impress in front of their home crowd.

The drivers will have another opportunity to acclimatize to the track conditions with a second practice session later in the afternoon. With Silverstone's unpredictable weather and the competitive nature of the championship, fans can expect an exciting and action-packed weekend of racing. Tsunoda's early incident serves as a reminder of the fine margins and high stakes that define Formula 1, setting the stage for a thrilling British Grand Prix.
