The two unlucky drivers of the day are Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso and VCARB’s Yuki TSunoda. Despite their efforts during the F1 Chinese GP qualifying session, both were unlucky in the main race. Fernando Alonso faced an issue with his rear right brake as Alpine’s Pierre Gasly pointed out the smoke from the Spaniard's rear brakes.

Within a few seconds, Alonso complained of not getting any brake feel in his car. Soon he was called into the pits and retired from the race. This was really unlucky for the veteran driver, as he started well and was looking to finish inside the points table.

Yuki Tsunoda also started well and gained positions on the opening lap. As a backend team, they opted for a two-stop pit strategy that cost them dearly. The Japanese driver was clean with his racing but his team strategy and front wing played against him.

The double-stop Pit strategy didn't work for VCARB as their two drivers Isack Hadjar and Yuki TSunoda lost positions and were behind Alpine and Williams drivers. Hadjar fought hard with Jack Doohan. While Yuki Tsunoda was on the main straights, suddenly his wings got broken and really struggled to keep Jack Doohan and Hadjar behind him. The video shows Yuki Tsunoda’s wing getting misaligned on the main straights due to high airflow.

According to the FIA rules, the wings need to be changed if there is any severe damage as it could damage the tyres and even cause collisions on the tracks. So VCARB pitted him and Tsunoda ended up in the final position. VCARB has become the biggest loser of the 2025 Formula 1 chinese grand prix as both their drivers had a great chance of finishing inside the points table. The two-stop strategy didn’t fit well for their drivers compared with Haas drivers Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman who finished P7 and P10 following a single-stop strategy.
