F1 chinese GP Most wins Photograph: (X)
This week we will see the second race of the Formula 1 2025 season in China. The Shanghai International Circuit has traditionally been like a home ground to F1 legend Lewis Hamilton, as he has had more wins than any other driver since its inception in 2004.
It was out of the calendar from 2020 to 2023 seasons due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the country. As it returned last year, Max Verstappen dominated the entire race weekend in China and won. This year, we expect Lando Norris to win the race after seeing his dominance in Australia. Let us look at some drivers who dominated the Chinese Grand Prix in the past.
Here are the F1 drivers who have the most wins at the F1Chinese Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton: 6 times
Formula 1 legend and one of the greatest of all time, Lewis Hamilton, is the only driver who dominated the Shanghai GP single-handedly and won six times. He started his dominance since the year he debuted in Formula 1. In 2007, he had a great chance for victory in China but a small mistake he made during the pitstop cost him and he also lost the 2007 F1 world title.
But again in the 2008 season, he won the Chinese Grand Prix, followed by 2011, 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2019. He became the king of the Chinese Grand Prix as the circuit suited well with his driving style. This year he is driving for Ferrari and if they give him the best car, we expect a seventh win for him on Dragon Land.
Nico Rosberg: 2 times
Hamilton’s rival and teammate Nico Rosberg also won the Chinese GP twice in his F1 career. The first time he won was in 2012; it was also the first-ever victory for Mercedes since their return to Formula 1 as a full-time working team.
After Schumacher’s exit in the 2012 season, Nico Rosberg had to battle hard with his new teammate Lewis Hamilton for the title for two consecutive seasons. The German again won the Chinese GP in 2016, where in the same year he won the F1 title.
Fernando Alonso: 2 wins
The veteran F1 driver Fernando Alonso also won the F1 Chinese GP twice in his career. The first one came in 2005, which is his championship-winning year and the second win was in 2013, which is for the Ferrari team. We hope Fernando Alonso will win the Chinese GP before announcing his retirement from Formula 1.
Max Verstappen: 1 win
The recent winner of the Chinese GP was Max Verstappen in the 2024 season. The Shanghai GP returned to F1 after 4 years of absence due to COVID. On its return, the Dutchman dominated the entire race weekend and landed his first-ever victory on Chinese soil.
Daniel Ricciardo: 1 win
The other Red Bull driver who won recently was Daniel Ricciardo, who was outstanding during the 2018 F1 season. Sebastian Vettel was the polesitter, but the Ferrari strategy bit him hard and he lost his position to Valtteri Bottas. A collision between Vettel and Verstappen allowed Ricciardo to pass through and in the final few laps, he overtook Bottas and clinched the victory.
Chinese Grand Prix winners
The other F1 drivers who won the Chinese GP were Rubens Barrichello, Fernando Alonso, Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen, Jenson Button, and Sebastian Vettel.
