During the qualifying session for the 2024 British MotoGP at Silverstone, Maverick Viñales suffered a significant crash that had a notable impact on the session's outcomes. The Aprilia rider was aiming to secure a strong starting position, but his hopes were dashed when he went down late in the session.

The crash occurred towards the end of qualifying, a critical phase when many riders were on their second runs, looking to improve their lap times. Viñales' incident not only ended his session prematurely but also disrupted the rhythm of several other riders on the track.

Here is the video:

Notably, championship leader Francesco Bagnaia, who was trying to make up time after an issue with his visor, had his run compromised. Bagnaia had to pull out of his lap attempt and ultimately settled for second on the grid, unable to challenge Aleix Espargaró’s new lap record at Silverstone.

Aleix Espargaro clinched the pole position

Viñales himself was on course to improve his position but ended up in eighth place on the grid. His crash highlighted the fine margins in MotoGP, where even the slightest miscalculation can have significant consequences, not just for the rider involved but for others competing as well.

Despite the setback, Viñales will be looking to bounce back in the race, knowing that a strong start from the third row could still see him in contention for a podium finish. Espargaró, Viñales' teammate, managed to overcome the Ducati dominance to take pole position, setting a new lap record in the process.

The Spaniard's performance was a bright spot for Aprilia, though the team will be keenly aware of the challenges ahead, especially with Viñales needing to recover from his difficult qualifying session. As the riders prepare for the sprint race, all eyes will be on how Viñales manages to navigate through the pack, hoping to turn his fortunes around after a frustrating end to his qualifying session at Silverstone.
