In a thrilling display of competitive spirit, Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon provided an exhilarating on-track battle during the Austrian Grand Prix, leaving fans on the edge of their seats. The Alpine teammates traded positions multiple times before Gasly ultimately secured a hard-fought 10th place, adding another point to his tally.

Ocon had a strong start to the weekend, reaching Q3 in qualifying and securing 10th place on the grid, while Gasly exited Q2 in 13th. However, as the race progressed, Gasly closed the gap and found himself in close contention with Ocon. The duo engaged in a fierce fight for position, overtaking Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin in the process.

Here is the video:

The intensity of their battle peaked as they vied for 11th place, with Ocon initially holding the upper hand. But Gasly’s determination saw him pull off a decisive move into Turn 4, overtaking Ocon and securing his position. When the chequered flag fell, Gasly had maintained his lead, crossing the finish line in 10th place, while Ocon finished 12th after being overtaken by Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari.

“A disappointing one today”, says Esteban Ocon

This result marked Gasly’s fourth consecutive points finish and his 400th point in Formula 1, a milestone that left him optimistic about Alpine’s trajectory. Reflecting on the race, Gasly acknowledged the challenging nature of the battle and the satisfaction of coming out on top.

"It was well-fought, that’s for sure! It was pretty intense from the first lap," he remarked. "I had to recover, had a pretty intense battle on track with Fernando Alonso, Esteban, Charles. It was quite entertaining in the cockpit, and I’m very happy."

Gasly also highlighted the team's newfound consistency and expressed hope for further improvements. "Fourth race in a row in the points, we seem to have found some consistency with the team. Still a lot of work to do, but we’re going in the right direction. I hope in the next few weeks we can pick up some more performance to fight for real points."

On the other hand, Ocon was left to reflect on a disappointing outcome. Despite a strong start, he struggled to maintain his pace and eventually fell out of the points. "We had a very good start, but I just lost ground to all the cars. The pace wasn’t there," Ocon admitted. "A disappointing one today, but we race in a couple of days and hopefully we can do better in Silverstone."
