During the 2025 Bahrain Grand Prix, Alex Albon was fined 7500 euros for impeding Luke Browning, a rookie driver who drove his Williams teammate Carlos Sainz’s car during the FP1 session. This is a regulation breach, according to the FIA, and he was fined heavily for that.

The incident was live reported by Aston Martin’s rookie driver Felipe Drugovich, who said, “Whoosh! That was close," on his team radio. It was a blind spot, and the two drivers didn't see each other. But they have to abide by the FIA regulations, and Albon now has to pay the hefty fine.

Watch: Alex Albon and George Russell jokes

After the end of day 1, during the driver's press meet, Alex Albon and George Russell joked about the incident. He was asked about the incident and the 7500-euro fine, for which Alex said, “I’m not paying that fine.” Russel, who was also there, joked about Carlos Sainz. He said, “That’s less expensive than Carlos’ poo. Albon replied, “Would you rather take a shit or take out your teammate? Take out your teammate! Russell found that taking out teammates is less expensive than paying a huge fine to the FIA for impeding.”

The FIA regulations have become more strict in recent times. F1 drivers have to be careful with the rules, especially the Parc fermé, which costs teams and drivers more than the actual development costs. Swearing also became one of the hot topics from last year, where Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen did community service before the FIA awards last year.

Drivers have to be very careful with the words they speak on the team radio. Alex Albon is now leading the drivers points table against his teammate Carlos Sainz. Williams Racing has also become the fifth strongest team after McLaren, Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari. They are expected to top the midfield this year.
