As the 2024 Formula 1 season roars back to life, fans and teams are gearing up for the United States Grand Prix at the iconic Circuit of The Americas in Austin. With the added excitement of a Sprint event, all eyes are on the weather as it could play a crucial role throughout the weekend. While dry conditions are expected for the most part, fluctuating temperatures, gusty winds, and a slight chance of rain could keep drivers on their toes.

Friday, October 18 – FP1 and Sprint Qualifying

Friday's action kicks off with partly cloudy skies in the morning, but as the day progresses, cloud cover will increase, bringing a slight chance of light showers. Although the likelihood of rain remains below 20%, the chance can't be entirely ruled out.

Winds from the southeast will reach speeds of up to 40 kph by noon, which may pose a challenge for teams as they fine-tune their cars during FP1 and Sprint Qualifying. The temperature is expected to be fairly warm, with FP1 starting at around 25°C, while Sprint Qualifying heats up to 28-29°C. The maximum temperature for the day is forecasted to reach 29°C, with a minimum of 17°C.

Saturday, October 19 – Sprint and Qualifying

Saturday’s weather outlook mirrors Friday, with partly to mostly cloudy skies and a slight chance of light showers. Again, the probability of rain remains low at 20%, and if it does occur, it’s not expected to have a significant impact. Winds will shift slightly, coming from the east, but with less intensity than Friday, reaching gusts of up to 30 kph.

Temperatures will stay steady throughout the day, hovering around 28°C during both the Sprint race and Qualifying, with a minimum temperature of 18°C. The key challenge for teams will be managing tyre temperatures, particularly under changing cloud cover.

Sunday, October 20 – Race Day

Race day is expected to bring favourable conditions for both drivers and fans. The forecast predicts partly cloudy skies, with plenty of sunshine anticipated throughout the day. The chance of rain drops to below 20%, and dry conditions are expected to prevail, allowing for uninterrupted racing. Winds will remain light, with gusts of up to 30 kph, coming from the east. The race is set to start in comfortable temperatures of 26-27°C, with a maximum of 28°C and a minimum of 18°C for the day.
