American Formula 1 driver Logan Sargeant, fresh from his departure from the Williams F1 team, is set to test the waters in the American racing scene with an IndyCar trial. Sargeant, who is originally from Florida but spent most of his racing career in Europe, will be testing for Meyer Shank Racing. The team is evaluating him for a potential seat in the future, giving the young driver a chance to revive his career after his Formula 1 exit.

Sargeant’s first experience behind the wheel of an IndyCar will take place on November 19 at the Thermal Club in California. The track, currently private, is set to become an official venue in the next IndyCar season, offering Sargeant the chance to make his debut in familiar territory. Meyer Shank Racing, which finished the 2024 IndyCar season with Felix Rosenqvist in 12th place, will use this test session to assess Sargeant’s potential and determine whether he could be a valuable addition to their team.

Why IndyCar is the best option for Logan?

While this will be Sargeant’s first major venture into IndyCar, the 23-year-old has been linked with the series before. In July, Prema Racing confirmed that they had been in discussions with Sargeant as part of their plans to enter IndyCar in 2025. At the time, Sargeant had been focused on his Formula 1 career but hinted that he was keeping his options open.

“I’m exploring all options within and outside of F1,” Sargeant said. “I’ve heard the rumours for a while now, but I’m just focused on driving well and seeing what the future holds.” With Sargeant now out of F1, it seems his future might lie in IndyCar. His opportunity to test with Meyer Shank Racing could be the first step toward making that a reality.

Meanwhile, Williams has not suffered in Sargeant’s absence. Argentine substitute driver Franco Colapinto has filled in admirably, producing a strong performance in the Singapore Grand Prix, where he finished just outside the points in 11th place. While Colapinto expressed disappointment in not securing a top-10 finish, his performance has been promising and has helped soften the blow of Sargeant's departure from the team.
