After four years a new team is set to join the IndyCar series in 2025. As per the latest developments, Italy-based junior Formula racing team Prema Racing is set to join the series for the 2025 season. In a recent press release, the decorated team announced the decision calling it a ‘pivotal moment in the history of Prema Racing’.

Prema will have two fully Chevy-powered entries from the start of the season. However, the announcement of drivers, sponsors and other details will take place on a different date in the coming months. Prema will be the only team after Juncos Hollinger Racing to join the series.

"Today's announcement marks a pivotal moment in the history of Prema Racing. Making the step to the IndyCar series and competing in the world-famous Indianapolis 500 is a dream come true for our family and everyone involved in our business," said Prema Racing team chief Rene Rosin.

Prema continues to produce talents!

Founded in 1983 by Angelo Rosin, Prema Racing has served as a platform for junior and rookie drivers to sharpen their skills and make their way to senior tournaments. Prema currently operates teams in Formula 4, Formula Regional European Championships, Formula 3, Formula 2 and the all-female F1 Academy. They have in total 18 drivers across the leagues.

Notably, out of 20 top F1 drivers of the ongoing season nine have been part of Prema Racing at one point in their career. It includes players like Charles Leclerc, Oscar Piastri, Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly. With such a huge legacy it will be interesting to see how Prema operates in IndyCar.

The tournament president Jay Frye is also excited about Prema’s inclusion. He said, "Prema Racing, with their global reach and extraordinary presence in open-wheel racing, will be a great addition to our growing and highly competitive paddock.”

However, Prema Racing’s inclusion will pose a pitlane issue for IndyCar as some of its tracks will not be able to handle 29-full time entities. This includes Mid-Ohio, Toronto and possibly Laguna Seca. It will be a headache for Jay Frye and the team to get this fixed.
