Sergio Perez
Amidst months of swirling speculation, it’s now apparent that Sergio Perez will continue racing with Red Bull through the 2025 Formula 1 season. These speculations began as early as July during the Hungarian Grand Prix, where rumors spread that Perez was facing an ultimatum with a three-race evaluation to secure his seat.
When he successfully passed that hurdle, other rumors arose, claiming he would announce his retirement during the Mexican GP. However, Perez remains firmly planted within the team’s lineup, ready for the upcoming season. At the recent Brazilian Grand Prix, Perez confidently dismissed the speculations, stating, “They will see me in Las Vegas, and they will see me next year.”
Despite Perez’s assurance, team principal Christian Horner has yet to provide a categorical confirmation of his continuation, and Red Bull's influential advisors, Helmut Marko and Jos Verstappen, have hinted at a preference for change. Nonetheless, Perez’s position appears secure, at least for now, as the 2025 season approaches.
A sponsorship deal saves Perez’s seat!
Part of Perez’s value to Red Bull goes beyond his on-track performance. His presence secures valuable sponsorships, with several major Mexican sponsors tied exclusively to his role within the team. MARCA reports that Perez’s sponsorships, including Claro, Telcel, and Interproteccion, contribute more than $30 million annually to Red Bull, effectively covering his salary and significantly boosting the team’s finances.
Sources also suggest additional Mexican sponsors are prepared to join for the 2025 season, with Red Bull even approving Perez to launch his own branded merchandise. Moreover, Perez brings an unparalleled market reach. His appeal extends far beyond the track, bolstering fan attendance at key North American races in Miami, Austin, Mexico City, and Las Vegas.
With a massive fanbase in Mexico, Perez’s role is instrumental in Red Bull’s commercial success in the region, where Formula 1 viewership continues to grow rapidly. Although younger drivers like Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda have shown potential, Red Bull remains unconvinced they could match Perez’s level of performance in the current RB20, especially after trials with the car showed they struggled to meet Perez’s lap times.
