Sergio Perez inches closer to making his F1 return in 2026

Former Red Bull driver and 6-time race winner Sergio Perez is all set to make a comeback to Formula 1 in the 2026 season. The Mexican driver didn't have a great outing last year as Perez struggled with the balance issues in his Red Bull car. He couldn’t even consistently finish inside the top ten and Red Bull lost their construction championship to McLaren.

After the 2024 season, Perez and Red Bull management met and there it was decided that the two would part ways after the year and Perez stay with Red Bull as a brand ambassador.

Perez's return with the Cadillac F1?

With no team options in the 2025 season, Sergio Perez is looking to make his return in 2026. The F1 2026 season will have a new team Cadillac F1 and with that, there will be two more driver spots. If Perez could land a deal with the American automaker then it would be the perfect re-entry for the Mexican.

As an American manufacturer, GM is looking for drivers from the American continent. Sergio Perez as a North American is a good fit for the team to learn more about Formula 1. Checo has experience working with a championship-winning team and he could help them.

There was news regarding the Mexican driver contacting the American auto giant regarding a driver seat for the 2026 season. Cadillac F1 is working rapidly towards their Formula 1 entry in 2026 and they even secured a deal with Ferrari for powertrains. They hired 300+ people and set up a new team facility in North Carolina, USA. 

If everything goes well, Perez will be one of the drivers for the Cadillac F1 team. He could even challenge his former team Red Bull and win against them which could be a massive comeback for Checo and his fans. Many fans blasted Red Bull, for the way they sacked Perez last year and even his former teammate Max Verstappen was not happy with it.
