Helmut Marko Warning Photograph: (X)
Red Bull Racing will have a new lineup this year with Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson as their drivers. Last year they lost the constructors title due to Perez’s poor form. So, Christian Horner and Helmut Marko met with Checo after the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
There, it was decided that Sergio Perez would part ways with Red Bull after 2024 and be their promotional driver. With Checo opting out of the team, Red Bull had two drivers waiting in line. One is the more experienced Yuki Tsunoda and rookie Liam Lawson.
Red Bull took the tough pill of signing Liam Lawson ahead of Tsunoda for which they were thrashed online by F1 fans and pundits. The biggest reason for signing Liam ahead of Yuki is the Honda deal ending in 2024. Even if you keep that aside Tsunoda is still the best driver who deserved a Red Bull seat alongside Max Verstappen.
Helmut Marko issues a Warning.
The reason the Austrian team said was Yuki Tsunoda’s anger management issues. We have heard Yuki frustrating over the radio during the races. He also gives some X-rated comments regarding the car's performance.
Team Boss Helmut Marko pointed out that as one of the biggest flaws in Yuki. He said “At some point, his outbursts of rage on the radio went too far. If you swear and curse in the middle of a corner, that’s not good. Then you drive slower.
We explained to him that he had to stop it. In addition, the engineer can’t do anything with feedback like ‘bloody f*cking car’. We have to know what exactly is the car doing.
He has to analyse that and then say it factually.” The 81-year-old also warned young Isack Hadjar saying “Isack is fast but he has to keep his emotions under control.
So generally, focus on the important things, and make fewer mistakes, he had a spin at the test in Abu Dhabi and I think he had also a spin on the Friday outing. Be more consistent, but the speed and everything is here and the rest comes with routine.”
The new RB Bulls driver Isack Hadjar responded to the comments saying “Yes, being angry on the radio. It’s a weakness for some people, but for me, It's not important.
I’m aware of what I’m doing and I know why I’m doing it. But I understand. We’re going to cut that this year, that’s all. I’ll scream all by myself in my car and no one will hear.”
