Rwanda has pushed towards hosting the Formula 1 Grand Prix shortly. The African country has the credibility of hosting some events in the recent past. Paul Kagame has confirmed the government's move to bring back the Grand Prix to the country for the first time since 1993 during the opening of the FIA General Assemblies in Kigali.

Kagame addressed the gathering and was happy to announce that Rwanda was bidding towards bringing back Formula 1 to the country. He claimed the motive was to ensure the return of the thrill of racing back to the African continent by hosting an F1 Grand Prix in the near future.

"I am happy to formally announce that Rwanda is bidding to bring the thrill of racing back to Africa, by hosting a Formula One Grand Prix," Kagame said. He felt Africa had a huge potential to become a racing hub given the talent of driving and exposure to racing cars in several countries.

'The goal of the motorsport industry is to connect directly with fans' - Paul Kagame

Paul added that hosting an F1 event is an important milestone for Africa. He felt doing so would enhance economic growth, tourism, and global visibility. Kagame felt the goal of the motorsport industry was to connect with the fans and felt the need to do the same in Africa.

"It is an important milestone and signalled the goal of the motorsport industry to connect directly with fans and aspiring drivers in Africa," Kagame added in his statement. He concluded by saying that everything came down to respect and giving a chance for everyone to step up and contribute on different scales.

"It all comes down to respect, and giving everyone the chance to contribute, where they can," Kagame concluded. While Rwanda's aspirations are high, especially in Sports, critics have been against the idea. Many have accused Kagame of destroying the reputation of the country by not executing them well. Hence, many have asked the government to execute the plan well to ensure no embarrassment at the global level.
