The 22-year-old Jack Doohan is the second Australian driver on the grid after Oscar Piastri. The Alpine F1 team missed Oscar but grabbed Doohan in both hands. Jack was the son of former 5-time MotoGP world champion Mick Doohan. Born in 2003, Doohan will be one of the 5 rookies racing this 2025 F1 season. Speculations say Jack Doohan only has 6 races to prove himself or he would be replaced by his friend Franco Colapinto for the rest of the year.
Inspired by two world champions
The young Australian got interested in Formula 1 after meeting 7-time world champion Michael Schumacher and started his karting career in Australia. His father, Mick Doohan, is already a five-time MotoGP world champion, so young Jack was inspired by two great legends in Motorsport.
Junior racing days
Doohan started his karting career in 2012, where he raced in Australia. He then moved to single-seater competitions in Europe. He competed in British F4 championships and won many races and podiums. He then moved to the Formula 3 regional series and the main championship.
Alpine Academy driver
In 2021, Jack Doohan became a full-time Formula 2 racing driver and Alpine Academy driver. During that time, he got the experience of driving a Formula 1 car as a testing driver on multiple occasions. There he impressed everyone and very soon became Alpine’s future driver.
Formula 1 debut
Jack debuted in Formula 1 last year at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Alpine replaced Esteban Ocon with Doohan. He qualified 20th and finished 15th after the main race. Though he did not score any points Doohan’s performance was appreciated. He also took part in the post-season test, where he completed 137 laps and came eighth fastest driver.
Do-or-die test
The 2025 Formula 1 season is a big testing period for Doohan. His Alpine career is on the line as Franco Colapinto is ready to grab his seat and has more experience than Doohan. But Alpine has promised to give him a competent machine this year and we believe the Australian won't disappoint us.
