The F1 film is under production with Brad Pitt playing a retired F1 racer who returns to the sport for a fictional team ‘APXGP’ team. He is playing as the driver and mentor to his rookie teammate Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris. There were rumours that Red Bull, the reigning world champions, are the villains in that movie, which Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton is co-producing alongside Jerry Bruckheimer.

Red Bulls Fear

The filmmaking is also backed by Mercedes as they are helping the movie makers by modifying the Formula 2 cars into Formula 1 cars for the movie. The Austrian team feared being the villain in that movie as Mercedes was backing the filming. The co-producer of the movie Jerry has finally cleared all the rumours surrounding the speculations of being a villain or a hero.

He said, “The interesting part is that, since we teamed up with Mercedes, the other teams said ‘Wait a second, this movie is going to be about Mercedes and we’re going to look bad’.” Among all other teams, Red Bull feared the most for being portrayed as the villain of the story. He added “Red Bull said, ‘We’re going to be the villains’. It took us three years to convince them that they weren't going to be the villains and we finally got to a place where all the teams are really leaning into us to really help us.”

The Production team is planning to release the film next year. Firstly they plan to show the movie to the drivers at the Monaco GP race next year and then they are planning to have a global premiere in New York, London and many other cities.

As far as the hero Brad Pitt, he is already very much interested in the project and the film shooting took place even during the 2024 Mexican GP qualifying session. He also praised Lewis Hamilton for helping them with their filming rights when they met F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali and FIA president Ben Sulayem who were both very welcoming for the project to happen.

For the Movie, they used smaller cameras than those used for filming the Top Gun Maverick movie starring Tom Cruise. Even Smartphones were used to show every angle of the car when filming. Brad Pitt had three-month training just like Formula 1 drivers and got praise from the 7-time world champion. The film is the first direct film that involves Formula 1 drivers like Lewis Hamilton, and Max Verstappen as they were seen in the trailer.
